Schedule corrections!

Beware...some earlier versions of the conference contained some minor errors concerning the Thursday afternoon schedule.

Here is the real scoop:

Where to Find Computers...

There are clusters of computers in W200, W300, Gordon Student Center, and the Academic Computer Lab (C210) in the Coulter Library Building. You can use computers in these areas and almost any public access computer you find by using the following login information:

Registration & Residence Hall Check-In

Conference registration and residence hall check-in are both located in the same place.

Whitney Atrium (building next to the conference parking lot - Lot 13)

Wednesday, June 17 9:00am to 9:30pm
Thursday, June 18 8:00am to 12:00pm

If you need to check-in to the residence hall outside of the above times, please call residence life when you arrive on campus (315)877-3209 . The residence hall staff will meet you at the Building B (165) entrance nearest the residence hall parking lot behind the building. If you are unable to reach residence life, please call security at (315)498-2478.

There are three residence halls on campus. They are grouped together on your left side when you enter through the main campus entrance (Rt 175). Building B has the number "165" on the front of the building and is located between buildings A and C.

Wireless Access

Wireless access will be available in all buildings and the residence halls. The residence halls will not require a login, but you will need to login and do some additional setup if you would like to access the wireless network in all other buildings on campus.

Fitness Center and Pool Availability

In addition to the early morning run/walks each morning, the fitness center and pool are also available. These facilities are both located in the Health and Physical Education Building. Locker rooms with showers are available on the first floor.

Early Morning Run/Walks

Wednesday Excursions

We have finalized our excursion plans. Details about each excursion can be found below. All excursions will take place Wednesday afternoon and will meet at the designated time at the conference registration desk in the Whitney Building Atrium. Sainte Marie among the Iroquois Living History Center on Onondaga Lake

Sainte Marie among the Iroquois is a re-creation of the French Mission that once stood on the shores of Onondaga Lake from 1656-1658. Visit the Interpretive Center and converse with the costumed interpreters about daily life in the 1650's. Demonstrations in carpentry, blacksmithing, cooking and other unique activities are available. Browse the museum and archives to learn about the 17th century culture of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), the French and their meeting here. Ste. Marie enlightens visitors to the story of the brave men who traveled here in the 1650's from Canada. John Spencer will lead this excursion.

Excursion to Skaneateles, NY: Lunch, shopping, sightseeing, museums, and more!

Visit the beautiful village of Skaneateles, where a recent U.S president (Bill Clinton) vacationed with his family in 1999. The main street is lined with massive, elegant turn-of-the-century homes. Skaneateles is situated at the edge of lovely Skaneateles Lake, and a shady park hugs the water's edge, providing a quiet area where sightseers and shoppers can relax and enjoy the sights. The historic district is filled with shops and art galleries in buildings that were built as early as 1796. Gerry Wright and Vi Marcy will lead this excursion.

Time: 11:15 am to 4 pm
Some transportation is available; car-pooling is encouraged.
Cost: your lunch in one of Skaneateles' stylish restaurants

Onondaga County Poorhouse Tour & Presentation

Join Jane Tracy, Town of Onondaga Historian, and Rob O’Boyle for a short walk on College property to visit the former Onondaga County Poorhouse and Hospital site and the gravesite of the General John Ellis family whose farm was located here in the early 1800’s. After a short walk Jane will give a short talk and PowerPoint presentation related to the land that Onondaga Community College sits on.

SUNYLA Conference 2009: Call for Participation

(pre-conference & conference sessions and poster presentations)

The Program Planning Committee invites applications for participation in the 41st Annual SUNYLA Conference, June 17-19 at Onondaga Community College. Presentations (pre-conference and conference), panels, workshops, roundtables and posters may be on any topic addressing the broad conference theme that encompasses all areas of library expertise. Please plan on submitting a proposal today!

Following the session format of past years, the 2009 Conference will offer:

Pre-conference workshops that last anywhere from 2-3 hours
Conference sessions for both 45-minute and 90-minute time slots

Please select the length of time that would be most appropriate for your session.

If you are interested in presenting at this year's conference, we look forward to receiving your proposal. While we investigate the creation of an online form, please feel free to express your interest in presenting by e-mailing, snail mailing, or faxing the appropriate address listed below. Please include names and SUNY units for all designated participants per session.Please refer to the "Guidelines for the SUNYLA Annual Conference Expenses" available at http://tiny.cc/7Tczs for information on expense reimbursement.Deadline for proposals is March 9, 2009.
