The SUNYLA Conference 2009 Blog

Welcome! This is the official blog for the SUNYLA Conference 2009. And, to begin, it seems only appropriate that we start off with some comments from our Conference Chair, Angela Weiler:

Hi everyone:
Preparations for the 2009 SUNY Librarians Association Conference at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse are now underway! The conference will be held from Wednesday, June 17 to Friday, June 19, 2009, and we hope to have lots of interesting and fun events for you all, in addition to a great lineup of presentations and workshops. Pauline Shostack, Electronic Resources Librarian at OCC, is our Local Arrangments Chair, and we have a great group of people who have volunteered to help.
We decided to choose a theme based on the rich history of the Onondaga tribe (“People of the Hills”). Onondaga lands were originally the regular meeting place for the five tribes of the Iroquois Confederacy (the Haudenasaunee, or “people of the longhouse”). Because of this role, the Onondagas are known as the “Fire Keepers” of the confederacy.
SUNY librarians work hard at “keeping fires”: the fires of inquiry and of research; the desire for exploration and for discovery. SUNY libraries fire the imagination and enlighten the soul. And so it seems entirely appropriate that, as we come together for our annual meeting and conference at Onondaga, our theme will be “SUNY Libraries: Keeping the Fire, Lighting the Way”.

Mark your calendars now; it’s going to be a great conference!
Angela Weiler
2nd. Vice President/Conference Chair
